Configuring Apple Mail v4 or v5 for Secure IMAP Access to LuxSci

This brief tutorial shows you how to configure Mac Mail v4 or v5 to connect to LuxSci using Secure IMAP and Secure SMTP (using SSL) on an alternate port.  For more assistance, please see the Mac Mail section of our email program setup guide.

    • If you have many subscribed email folders, Mac Mail will open connections to all of them and keep them all open if you use IDLE (e.g. it will want to keep checking email in all subscribed folders). This can cause 10s or 100s of persistent concurrent IMAP Connections — which is not generally good. For this reason, we generally recommend not using IDLE so that you don’t have excessive IMAP connections. If you have few subscribed folders, go ahead and use IDLE.

Note that this is based on the Mac Mail instructions in our help pages and this issue arose several years ago. I am not 100% sure if it still holds true in the latest versions of Mac Mail, though I would not be surprised if it did.
